The event is hosted by the New York chapter of the Congress for New Urbanism, which champions walkable and mixed-use cities, towns and villages. The conference will focus on topics such as attainable housing, incremental development and the contemporary importance of urbanism. Advertising describes the concept of a “complete community” as:
“It is a place that works. A place where people of different incomes, ages, and backgrounds can live within the same neighborhood. A place where daily needs are within reach.”
The day will begin with a local edition of Jane’s Walk, named after influential thinker Jane Jacobs, exploring the streets of Mamaroneck. This will be followed by a community lunch and the professional conference, which will feature panels and keynote presentations. The conference will conclude with a “Modern on the Rails” reception at the historic Mamaroneck train station.
The Conference is aimed at both experts on the subject of community development and interested people from all backgrounds. Professional conferences often provide an opportunity for those in the academic and nonprofit sectors to meet and connect, exchanging Business Cards and contact information.
The 2026 Complete Communities Conference will take place on May 3 at Mamaroneck Cinemas and other areas around the Village.
