Market rewards its most loyal shoppers

A loyalty program has been introduced by the Forest Hills Greenmarket to encourage area shoppers to get into the habit of buying locally grown produce.

In an initiative launched September 7, shoppers who visit the market in 10 out of the next 12 weeks will be entered into a raffle. The winner receives a tote bag brimming with produce from the market. Customers will be given a card and, for each week they shop, they will have it punched.

Among contributing farmers to the market are Red Jacket Orchards of Ontario County, Fairfield County’s Andrew’s Local Honey, and Bread Alone, which is based in Ulster County and provides artisan breads and pastries. Additionally, Pennsylvania-based Amantai Farm brings vegetables, herbs, poultry, and eggs.

Often, contributors to a farmers’ market will use a Print company to have recipes printed up, as well as digital Business Cards. These not only encourage more sales, but they provide a way for customers to call ahead to ensure what they want will be available when they visit.

The Forest Hills Greenmarket is open on Sunday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm and is located on 70th Avenue in front of the Forest Hills Post Office. The loyalty program runs through November 23, after which the punch cards will be collected and one will be drawn to award the prize.
