The Kew Gardens Festival of Cinema is coming to the area next summer. An international festival, it will focus entirely on independent films.
The founder of the festival is Jayson Simba, and the films will be selected by industry professionals. There will also be an awards gala on the last day of the festival. Awards will include Best Sound, Independent Visionary for Best Narrative, Best Actor/Actress, and Best Screenplay. There will also be two audience awards handed out for Best Narrative Feature and Best Short.
In addition to screening the films, there will also be question and answer sessions with the filmmakers.
The deadline to submit films to the festival is April 23. Each entry must be submitted on a DVD (NTSC) and the films must not have been commercially screened in the United States. Fees are $30 for a feature film and $20 for a short, while for students there is a $5 discount. The fees will be going up after January 8, so those looking to take advantage of these reductions need to apply in the next couple of weeks.
Film fans from all over, including nearby Forest Hills, will no doubt be interested in this festival. Organizers will likely be distributing Flyers and Posters to spread the word.
The Kew Gardens Festival of Cinema will be held at Kew Gardens Cinemas from August 4 to 13. For more information on how to submit an entry, call 929-278-5432.
