‘From Forest Hills: Birthplace of Punk to Rock Rock Rockaway Beach’ is taking place at the Queens Museum this month. It features an exhibition tour, a bus tour, and a concert.
This event is being held to celebrate the exhibition ‘Hey! Ho! Let’s Go: Ramones and the Birth of Punk’ which is on display until the end of this month. The exhibit features album covers, photographs, concert Posters, T-Shirts and much more Ramones memorabilia. Most of it was provided by the band’s manager Monte Melnick, who also provides firsthand accounts of the band.
‘From Forest Hills’ will start off with a free tour of the exhibition. It will then be followed by a bus trip to discover many of the locations that were pivotal to the band’s history. The trip will end at Rockaway Beach, and will be followed by a concert at the Low Tide Bar by two bands, including Sick Feeling.
The Ramones are a part of the history of Forest Hills and no doubt many fans will be surprised to learn some unknown facts. It is likely that Flyers will be distributed in the area to convince some of them to take the tour.
The event will start at the Queens Museum this Saturday, July 23, at 2:00 PM. Tickets for the bus tour are $10 each. Call 718-592-9700 to learn more.
