People who love shopping secondhand and getting a good deal on gently used items have a new place to shop in Forest Hills.
Housing Works recently opened a new thrift store on Austin Street in the Forest Hills section of Queens. The store had its grand opening in the new location on the last Saturday in September. The most recently opened store is the 14th thrift shop operated by Housing Works in New York City.
Stores opening new locations can use poster printing to get the word out and let people know when the grand opening will take place.
For some fans of the store, the recent grand opening was great news. One shopper, Tatjana Bourgeois, told the Forest Hills Times that she has been shopping at Housing Works thrift stores for years and that she thinks the new location is a great addition to the area.
Greta Joseidohl, another long-time shopper, said she really loves Housing Works, in part because she likes where the money goes.
Housing Works opened as a non-profit in 1990 with a mission of providing housing to people with AIDS. According to Katherine Oaks, the marketing and communications associate director for the organization, the group was founded with the belief that providing housing to people is a way of providing healthcare. The organization started operating thrift stores in 1992.
