Clifton Park hosts farm to table festival

For more than 30 years, Clifton Park has been kicking off the harvest season with Farm Fest, a celebration of the area's agricultural roots.

Farm Fest features self-guided tours of local working farms and a variety of themed activities. It begins with an event at the historic Grooms Tavern where a panel of guest speakers will provide the public with information on organic farming, environmental stewardship as well as lawn and landscape techniques all presented by the Clifton Park Government Re-thinking Energy and Environment Now (GREEN) committee. Since 2007, the GREEN committee has been advising the town and educating residents on energy saving and environmental issues.

Now known more as a residential suburb, Clifton Park has a vibrant agricultural background, the town having been created in 1828 when it was mostly farmland near a small village of homes.

On farm fest weekend, families can enjoy petting animals, picking fruit, hay rides, horse rides, live music and fresh country food while learning all about the farming industry and where their food originates.

In conjunction with the festival, the community hosts a 5K run, which takes place on a scenic, shady route through town. Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to take part and vie for age group awards. The first 75 people to register will receive a commemorative T-shirt. Organizers of similar races often use printing services to help advertise their events.

The 31st annual Farm Fest takes place on September 14 and 15, 2024.
