Special needs children in Clifton Park will be able to get the encouragement and assistance they need, as Helping Hands has opened a new location in the city.
The pre-school opened its new site late last month, relocating to 4 Fairchild Square from the town of Halfmoon. Helping Hands is a nonprofit, private school serving special needs children. The institution has an enrollment of approximately 200 children from ages three through five. There are 61 members on staff.
The school's aim is to foster skills and aid developmentally challenged preschoolers in getting ready to attend public school. Helping Hands tailors its curriculum to meet each child's individual needs, so that every preschooler learns communications skills as well as picking up new learning methods. Some of the reasons for children coming to Helping Hands include autism disorders, developmental delays, and vision problems.
The children were given an unexpected treat when Collision Experts, a collision repair and auto body company with offices in Schenectady and Clifton Park, donated monies for a playground built to be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
School officials might want to work with a brochure printer to develop a booklet that explains the school's mission, its clients, and how it helps these children. The booklet could be mailed to area residents so they are aware of the new Helping Hands location.
