The recent awarding of a state grant will help the Maple Hill Farm in Clifton Park to protect its land and livelihood permanently.
The farm will receive funds from the Farmland Protection Implementation Grant which is a program, awarded by the state of New York, to help offset the costs of conservation. This means it helps sustain current production on farms.
The farm, which has been owned, by four generations of the Swartz family, spans 72 acres. It currently produces maple syrup, raspberries, pumpkins, and beef, all of which benefits the local community. The grant is for over $400,000 and is supplemented by funds provided by the town as well.
The grant has also been awarded to other farms in the past thanks to the assistance of the town, such as Riverview Orchards, Heckman Farm, and King’s Crest Farm. Many of these farms likely obtain services from local Print shops for flyer printing and brochure printing to advertise their products and events for community awareness.
Owners of the farm outlined other pros to the preserving the land, as it is that landscape that helps provide food and shelter for the growing number of animals on the farm. All this benefits the local community in a variety of ways due to the varying effects land preservation has on an environment.
Town council members are looking to the future for other opportunities that will benefit farm owners and area residents.
