Clifton Park company helps locals get ready for the holidays

Holiday decorating can be difficult in the cold and wet weather, but a Clifton Park man and his company are seeking to change all that.

Matt Martoccio, who started his company Christmas Guys in 2009, has taken on arguably the worst chore of all this year - hanging up outside lights. Martoccio says everyone enjoys decorating for the first half-hour or so, then they get cold and tired and find it hard to keep going. The Christmas Guys are therefore putting up Christmas lights for their patrons.

There are other companies doing the same thing, but Martoccio says the Christmas Guys offer a few extras that other similar organizations do not provide, such as playing Christmas carols as they work, passing out candy canes, and serving hot chocolate. Martoccio says they do more than hang up lights, they distribute Christmas cheer. The result is a house that has a family “feel” to it, but also sports a professional appearance.

The Christmas Guys provide consultations on design, as well as exterior and interior lighting plans. They also take the lights down at the end of the season.

The inspiration for the company came from Martoccio's childhood, when his neighbors gave him candy and chocolate to put up their lights. Martoccio could work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for residents, describing his company's services.
