Bountiful harvest at Clifton Park farmers market

The weekly summer Saratoga Farmers Market gets into full swing in July in Clifton Park.

With the motto “Shop Local, Eat Fresh,” the market offers a range of fruits and vegetables in season as well as farm products such as honey, jams, eggs, meats, bread, coffee, and spices. Pre-made meals are also available for purchase.

The farmers market is operated by a non-profit organization that has supported local growers since 1978 by providing a venue to sell their homegrown and homemade produce. The market has a unique feature offered by some vendors that allows frequent visitors to sign up for a community-supported agricultural program. It gives them the opportunity to pre-order seasonal produce in advance and pick up the harvest each week.

A number of the farmers are registered as USDA organic. Others offer products that are certified naturally grown, while some use standard farming practices.

In addition to the growers, other non-profit groups are invited to apply to set up tables to offer information to the public about their organization. Such groups, as well as farmer vendors, could use area Print shops to provide flyer printing to feature their business.

The market is held rain or shine on Mondays in July and through to the fall from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Shenendehowa Methodist Church at 971 Route 146.
