The American Poolplayers Association (APA) has stops in Clifton Park next month for 8-ball and 9-ball billiard qualifying events.
Hosted by the TrickshotBilliards SportsPub, the tournament offers singles players the opportunity to advance to regional play and possibly to further move on to championship competition. Businesses hosting sporting events such as this often use poster printing services to advertise their tournaments.
The APA is a national amateur pool organization that also has divisions in Canada, Japan and Singapore. It has been sanctioning recreational tournaments for more than 40 years and is the largest pool league in the world with more than 250,000 members. The association uses a unique handicap structure created by two professional players who founded the APA. The system counts the number of players' turns to determine how many games they need to win to take the match.
The APA hosts its largest tournament in Las Vegas each summer, featuring the 8-ball and 9-ball world championships. This is where more than $2 million in prize money is handed out annually.
APA members with at least 10 matches played in the past 24 months can compete in the Clifton Park competition.
The 8-ball and 9-ball matches will be held December 28, 2024 beginning at 2:30 pm at Trickshot Billiards, 1604 Halfmoon Parkway. The pool room includes eight 7-foot tables and six 9-foot pool tables.
