Traditional fair returns to Queens this year

The 32nd annual Queens County Fair is taking place over two days next month.

With plenty of traditional activities for the entire family to enjoy, there are set to be eating contests, pig races, and hayrides. There will also be carnival rides and midway games. Children's entertainment will be provided by the Big Apple Circus-to-Go. In addition, there will be children's craft activities, and the Amazing Maize Maze will open for the season.

A number of ‘blue ribbon’ competitions will be held in topics such as livestock, produce, and home crafts. The top three in each category (as well as honorable mentions) will receive ribbons, and all will compete for Best in Show.

For adults, the Bavarian garden will have beer, music, and dancing. The Con Edison ecology booth will be providing gardening and recycling tips. Green-fingered visitors can adopt a worm to take home to start their own compost pile.

Families from all over Queens, including Bellerose, will probably be interested in attending the fair. Local postcard printing companies may be asked to provide advertising materials.

The fair will be held at the Queens County Farm Museum from September 19 to 20. Admission is $9 for adults and $5 for children aged 12 and under, and there are extra fees for rides and other activities. Call 718-347-3276 to learn more.
