Bellerose workshop utilizes late-harvest vegetables

Growing vegetables can be a highly rewarding experience, and Bellerose home horticulturists can sign up for an activity that may help them make the most of their harvest.

Whether they grow their vegetables in a garden plot, a pot or other container, or a raised bed, the Cure a Vegetable and Make a Pie workshop offered by Queens County Farm Museum will help them develop their storage skills. Sweet potatoes, pumpkins and other squashes, and potatoes will all be covered, and the participation fee is $20.

The activity will explore the crops that remain in the garden at the end of the growing season, and everyone will find out how to properly harvest, prepare, store, and utilize these cool-weather crops. Everyone will learn how they can use them to make dishes such as pies and casseroles, and each attendee will go home with some vegetables so they can get more practice in their own kitchen.

When organizing an event with a culinary component, organizers may choose to order recipe cards and other materials to distribute. Stationery printers will be happy to help and can even laminate them so they can easily be wiped clean in case of a spill.

Bellerose gardeners who would like to make the most of their crop are welcome to register for this activity taking place on Sunday, November 22. It will begin at 10:00 am.
