Late spring and early summer means it is time for the first harvest of strawberry and rhubarb, and Bellerose residents will soon be getting some hands-on experience with these tangy plant products.
Often grown by the home horticulturist, rhubarb and strawberries will be the focus of an activity organized at Queens County Farm Museum. It will offer tips that can be used by even the newbie gardener, and seats can be reserved for $20.00 each.
The attendees will discover how to use suitable techniques for growing these popular food plants, and they will also learn some ideas for making use of them in their own kitchen. It will cover the process from seedling to plate, and there will be taste tasting of dishes that incorporate these ingredients. Depending on availability, everyone can take home some strawberries and rhubarb,, and also a copy of the recipes used.
When preparing for classes that include a cookery component, organizers may want to order recipe cards and other materials to distribute. Stationery printers will be able to provide different options for this, including ones that are laminated so they can easily be wiped clean.
Queen County Farm Museum will help Bellerose get summer off to a sweet start on Sunday, June 28. The session will begin at 10:00 am, and tickets can be purchased by following its website link.
