Queens Botanical Gardens announces New Year events

To begin 2020, Bellerose residents can enjoy plenty of new activities at Queens Botanical Gardens.

On Wednesday, January 8 from 6:00 pm until 8:00pm, visitors will enjoy seasonal cocktails while learning about indigo dyeing history and techniques. Attendees will make their own cotton bandanas using the shibori techniques. Drop-ins are welcome if space is available.

For those that like to dabble in water colors, the Gardens will feature artist Chemin Hsiao. The artist will explain the basic techniques and students will use the plants in the greenhouse as inspiration. Students that go to these types of workshops like to take their paintings to local Stationery printers to be made into personalized notecards.

The Garden’s Winter Wellness Workshop Series will present a two-hour look at Breathing and Drinking Teas. Participants will learn about making herbal remedies for winter ailments and will concoct their own personal facials. This event is scheduled for Saturday, January 18 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

Also, Queens Botanical Gardens will be celebrating the Year of the Rat at its Lunar New Year event coming at the end of January. Guests can participate in activities, view live performances and create crafts. Lucky plants will be available for purchase.

The free Lunar New Year Celebration will be Saturday, January 25 from noon until 4:00 pm at Queens Botanical Garden, 4350 Main Street, Flushing.
