Helen Marsh founded the Incorporated Village of Bellerose, New York on property she purchased in 1907. The first home of the model community she planned was completed in 1910. Marsh insured the success of her planned community by coaxing the Long Island Rail Road to provide the new village with a station. The station was named Bellerose by Marsh and in 1917 the residents decided to give that same name to their village.
