Bellerose area welcomes Lunar New Year

Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce is once again presenting its annual Flushing Lunar New Year Parade and Reception.

Last year’s Year of the Dog is coming to an end, and this year will be the Year of the Pig, which will be good news for those who are born under its sign as the pig is regarded as the symbol of success in all aspects of life.

Everyone here in Bellerose is invited to participate in the one-hour parade. Huge crowds are expected to view the traditional Chinese and Korean celebrations, dancing, floats, and colorful costumes. Many units are more than likely getting some last-minute banner printing done to have ways to introduce themselves to the crowd.

Before the parade, guests can meet and mingle at St. George Church for refreshments and hot coffee. The reception will feature performances and demonstrations by groups such as Queens Fencing Club and Epic 88 – a K-pop cover band that encourages listeners to dance along. The pre-parade party will also have prize giveaways and a raffle.

The 2019 Lunar New Year Parade and Reception will be on Saturday, February 9. The pre-parade reception will run from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the historic St. George’s Church, 135-32 38th Avenue with the parade starting at 37th Avenue and Union Street at 11:00 am. Both events will be free.
