Bellerose area class to teach willow weaving

One of the facets of sustainable gardening is making use of natural materials, and a Bellerose area class will take a page from this principle.

The New York Botanical Garden will be teaching some of the basics of willow twig weaving, and the completed project will be both attractive and functional when used outdoors. The finished garden obelisk can be used as a plant support for beans or other climbers, or simply to add some extra beauty to the beads, and the session will be for adults only.

Jessica Clark, who is the owner of Willow Vale Farm, will teach how to prepare garden obelisks using traditional methods used for many years in the UK and Japan. Each attendee will be able to try out some of the techniques on their own before they get started on their final project, and the event’s description explained that strong hands are an important part of successfully working at twig weaving.

Workshops like this give the public an opportunity to learn a new hobby. Printed instruction sheets for an activity will be available at area Stationery printers.

This in-person, hands-on workshop will be held on June 10 at 2900 Southern Boulevard in the Bronx, and it will begin in the morning, wrapping up in the late afternoon. Tickets are $239 each.
