Reno's celebration of creativity makes return

A month-long event is giving locals with an artistic career a chance to show off their items. This will take place during July.

Artown is a tradition in Reno dating back to 1996. Created as a way to bring people back into the town’s center, the festival has continually provided a unique opportunity to be immersed into the arts. Categories of available activities and displays include history, dance, music, literary, film, visual, and theater. There will also be culturally focused options, child-friendly events, specials, and workshops.

Workshops include fun activities/themes like making clay pieces of jewelry, silversmithing, hip hop dancing, sketching/drawing, soap crafting, yoga, crochet, painting, improv, wire sculpting, candle making, mosaics, pressing flowers, constellations, journaling, woodcutting, and screen printing.

Tickets are only needed for specific events within Artown, but general admission is free. Information and links to tickets for those experiences are available through Artown’s webpage. Included within the ticketed portion is the performances from Artown’s headlining acts. These musicians/singers are Dionne Warwick, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Jake Shimabukuro, and Ann Hampton Callaway.

Many additional performances will also take place, with some of the acts including editions of musicals based around Shrek, Shakespeare, Spongebob, and The Sound of Music.

The events are taking place at many venues throughout the Reno area. Flyer printing is a common choice in promotion for festivals. Attendees can enjoy Artown from July 1st to July 31st.
