Reno event takes creativity outdoors

A mid-February event is giving Reno residents a few days of fun activities and artistic displays.

Western Lights Festival is sponsored by the non-profit AHA Projects, and is organized by Grand Artique. The goal for founders Ian Xavier and Rachel Macintyre was to create a space for art to be displayed in a way that made it fully available to the public and not limited to an indoor location.

The festival will showcase sculptures, performances, and displays illuminated with colorful lights. It takes place throughout the streets of Downtown Reno. Guests are encouraged to stroll through the event and take in the art, as well as trying some of the interactive elements. Food will be available from a number of trucks. A market of vendors offering services and handmade products will also be present.

Attending the event is free for everyone thanks to donations and sponsorships. The festival has a website full of information on the experience, as well as a place to contribute to the funding of future editions. Many businesses that attend events like this will get their Business Cards printed so there is something to help guests remember their details afterwards.

The experience will take place between 5:00 pm and 10:00 pm on each of the three days of opening, which are February 19, 20, and 21.
