Reno workshops to teach next generation of knitters
Reno residents may want to sign up now for a series of workshops that can teach them the basics of using needles to create their own works of fiber art.
Gudrun Johnston, who is a knitwear designer, will be teaching the fundamentals during the Beginning Knitting series of classes, which at the time of writing are still scheduled to go ahead. It will begin with the basics, and when the workshops are completed, the participants will be able to begin their own knitted projects.
The first class will equip the learners with a knowledge of knitting terms and tools, and they will also learn how to cast on. The next week will be focused on the fundamentals of the purl stitch and correcting for dropped stitches, and casting off. Next, the group will explore gauge and why it matters, and also how they can shape their piece by increasing or decreasing the number of stitches they use. The series will wrap up with a workshop that will be all about reading patterns, needle selection and also how to choose the right yarn.
Classes like these bring together a group of people who are all interested in a particular topic. Wallet cards that include knitting tips and other information may be useful to the attendees, and a printing services company will be able to supply them.
The series is due to start on Wednesday, April 1 at 5:00 pm, and the other sessions will take place on the three following Wednesdays. The venue for these learning opportunities can be found at 2135 Dickerson Road.
