What's Happening in Reno, NV…

Reno walk to showcase alternatives to traditional turfgrass

Reno residents have been offered a chance to learn how they can create outdoor spaces that are a lot more diverse, and the session will also provide plenty of gardening inspiration.

Those who join the walking tour of Valley Wood Park will discover how easy it can be to convert a lawn, which is usually just a grass monoculture, into a space that is ecologically diverse and inviting to a variety of creatures. Tom Stille, who is a Landscape Architect and also owner of Interpretive Gardens, Inc. will both guide the excursion and answer any questions.

Once everyone has arrived, the assembled group will visit Valley Wood Park to see how a lawn can be converted into an area that attracts butterflies, bees, and other wildlife. They will also find out why these urban green spaces can be so important and discover to choose plants to incorporate in the design. If the organizer of this type of activity supplies each attendees with printed plant lists and other materials, it will be easy for them to use the principles they have learned in their own home landscape, and brochure printing companies can be counted on to provide them.

This guided tour of one of Reno’s wild spaces will be welcoming those who are 10 and over on August 8th. It is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am sharp, and the group will gather at 6555 Valley Wood Drive.
