Reno symposium to address issues faced by older adults

As Reno’s population ages, more of its residents may find themselves living on their own as an older adult. An event called ‘Living Alone with Alzheimer's: A Solutions Summit’ will address this topic in the new year.

It is estimated that as many as one out of every nine people over age 65 will be diagnosed with dementia, and those who live by themselves, along with their family, caregivers and community service organizations are encouraged to reserve a spot in this upcoming symposium.

The event will shed light on the experiences faced by those who live on their own and cope with dementia. It will present the topic from their perspective, and give consideration to the factors that impact their lives, such as housing, healthcare and social connections. There will also be input from social service agencies and others working to find viable solutions to these issues.

As the symposium winds down, the delegates will be invited to add their voices and experience to a discussion of how the local community can provide enhanced support for older adults living on their own. There will be time to network, exchange Business Cards and build connections with others in their area who share their interest in the cause.

The summit will be taking place on January 19 at 1981 Terminal Way in Reno.
