Historic Route 66 celebrates with Albuquerque event
Albuquerque will be celebrating a piece of history this July with the Route 66 Summerfest, a community festival taking place along Central Avenue.
The free event is being put on by the Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department and marks Route 66’s Centennial anniversary. It includes local bands spread out over multiple stages, food trucks local to Nob Hill, a market of handmade goods, such as clothing and jewelry, and free activities for children, including face painting, an inflatable obstacle course and a 25-foot climbing wall.
The headlining band for the event is Ozomatli, with participants encouraged to dance and sing in the street during their performance. The Los Angeles-based band, which began in 1995, blends hip-hop, Latin music, reggae, world music and funk into a distinct sound.
The event takes place along Central Avenue between Girard Blvd and Washington St. Traffic from local cars and bus routes will be impacted during the festival as Central Avenue will be closed.
Sponsors for the Route 66 Summerfest include KZRR 94 Rock, 100.3 The Peak, 104.1 The Edge, Big I 107.9 New Mexico’s Country, Hot 95.1 Oldschool, Power 100.9 and 98.1 The Bull.
Community events like this may choose to use promotional pens and other promo items to give to customers.
The Route 66 Summerfest is happening on July 19 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 400 Marquette Ave. NW in New Mexico.
