Disney fairy tale takes stage in Albuquerque

Albuquerque’s KiMo Theatre is hosting a presentation of Disney’s My Son Pinocchio Jr. this April.

New Mexico Young Actors is presenting this family-friendly, musical rendition of the classic fairy tale, Pinocchio, featuring a live band. Centered from the point of view of toymaker Geppetto, the play includes young thespians ages 9 to 19, with 40 actors in total taking the stage.

In the story, Geppetto gets more than he bargained for after wishing upon a star in hopes of having a son. While the craftsman is overjoyed at one of his creations coming to life, darkness lurks in the corners, ready to pounce on Pinocchio and take advantage of him.

The New Mexico Young Actors iteration of Pinocchio Jr. is directed by Rachel Ribeiro. As part of a series known as Broadway Junior shows, the 60-minute play serves as an entry point for young people aspiring to be part of musical theatre. Musicals like this may choose to use poster printing for low-cost promotion and showtime information.

School performances are on April 23 and 24 at 10:00 am and 12:30 pm for $6, and public performances take place on April 25 and 26 at 2:00 pm for $12 for children 12 and under and $14 for adults. All of the performances are taking place at the KiMo Theatre at 423 Central NW, Albuquerque.
