BioPark's lions to move to new home
The African lions staying at Albuquerque’s BioPark Zoo are being relocated.
The two lions are called Kenya and Dixie. They are nine years old and were born in a zoo in San Diego, before moving to Albuquerque in 2016. They are due to move to their new home this month.
When speaking about the move, BioPark’s director, Stephanie Stowell, stated:
Stowell also mentioned that the zoo intends to improve its “catwalk”, although concrete plans have not been confirmed. When the catwalk is complete, the zoo will be able to have lions in its collection of big cats once again.
The enclosure where the lions currently live has 3,136 square feet of space, and it was constructed in 1984. Their pen includes a moat, which the lions do not use, along with a wooden platform that they nap on. A rocky outcrop and trees can also be found in the enclosure. Poster printing can be used to educate guests at zoos like this.
The zoo’s administrators have not revealed any information about where the lions’ new home will be. All that can be confirmed is that it is a zoo with the right credentials.

“So 40 years ago, that lion habitat and all those other habitats were state of the art. And as we know more about animals’ complex needs, both emotionally and physically, we know that we would like to be able to provide them more.”
