Albuquerque bids farewell to exhibit
A special exhibit at the Tamarind Institute will be closing near the end of April.
Titled ‘Parasites, Prosthetics, Parallels, and Partners’, the exhibit has been open since the beginning of February and features works by artist Nicola Lopez, who has been a guest artist at the Tamarind Institute multiple times. The pieces in the exhibit convey the delicate balance between life and death, and the very human desire to do something great and lasting despite facing challenges and failure.
The pieces are made from wood and printed materials in most cases. Lopez used various techniques on the items to give them specific looks. She printed and cut many of the pieces herself, although the Tamarind printing team did help out as well.
Lopez was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, although she lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She has been an artist in residence at Tamarind at least four times; the pieces in this exhibit were largely created in 2017 during her fourth residency.
Tamarind Institute is attached to the College of Fine Arts, part of the University of New Mexico. It is located on Central Avenue in Albuquerque. It focuses on lithography and teaches new generations of master printers and graphic design experts. The gallery is located on the second floor of the institute, and is open to the public Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for free.
Those interested in viewing the gallery should make plans swiftly, as the exhibit will be closing on April 27.
