Unique running challenge comes to Albuquerque
Albuquerque’s Balloon Fiesta Park will be the site of a one-of-a-kind 24-hour running challenge called the Death by 5k event.
Now in its second year, the RunStrong event requires each participant to run ten 5K events within the span of 24 hours. Each 5k will be spaced out by two and a half hours, beginning with the first race at 8:00 am and continuing until 6:30 am the following day. All the running routes will be on paved roads or paths.
Tents are permitted, as there will be room in a grass field next to the pavilions at the park. In addition, participants can also sleep in their cars in between each 5K.
Snacks, Gatorade, and water will be provided throughout the event. In addition, certain intervals will have prepared food provided for participants.
People who finish the challenge will be given a “coffin award.” In addition, participants will get event shirts and other merchandise.
The participant list is limited to 175 but a waitlist will be activated if that fills up in case the race can be expanded or other spots open. Running events like this may choose to use banner printing for marking the start and finish lines.
The Death by 5k event is set to begin on Saturday, June 14 at 8:00 am and runs until the following day at Balloon Fiesta Park.
