Albuquerque residents invited to give indoor track a try

The only indoor track in the whole state of New Mexico recently opened its doors to the public, allowing Albuquerque residents a free opportunity to experience it for themselves.

The facility is part of the Albuquerque Convention Center, and has been named the second fastest track of its kind in the world. Not long ago, it was resurfaced with material that makes it both safer and less prone to cause knee injuries. According to Stephan Madrid, who works with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, the new surface now has some give to it, which will result in less impact on the knees than a hard outdoor surface.

Each year, the facility plays host to several track meets and other events, and it is estimated that during the 10 years that it has been open, it has resulted in a significant economic benefit for the city. Madrid estimated that it brought around $12m into the local area. Many local businesses, such as banner printing companies, can provide materials and support for these events.

The track will remain open for members of the public until February 19 from Tuesdays to Thursdays from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Those who wish to give it a try are reminded that spiked shoes may not be worn while using it, as they can damage the rubberized surface.
