Workshop planted in place this month

Anyone interested in orchids can take part in an informative workshop taking place in less than two weeks’ time.

‘Getting to know Orchids’ is an educational program for budding orchid enthusiasts. Specialists from Duke Farms will teach participants how to care for these special flowers.

Repotting an orchid is one skill that will be learned, and participants will get to take this orchid home. In addition, students will be given a tour of the ‘Orchid Range’ and ‘Native Orchid Nursery Bed’ with 1,500 different types of the flowering plant.

The workshop costs $35 and interested individuals will need to register in advance. To promote this event, a local poster printing service was likely asked to create Signs to post in Hillsborough Township and nearby Somerville.

Duke Farms has over 2,700 acres of undeveloped land with a wide array of wildlife and plants. Guests can see trees, shrubs, herbs, and grasses. Butterflies, birds, bees, fish, reptiles, and mammals can all be found on the property too. The establishment also has a cafe, a community garden, and a weekly farm-to-table market.

Along with the orchid class, the farm has various educational programs for children, families, and educators. Ongoing programs like the guided bird walks are also available.

The workshop will take place on November 15 from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm. Duke Farms is located on 1112 Dukes Parkway in Hillsborough Township.
