An early January event in the local area is bringing kids and their families back outside for a unique look at the environment. Somerville residents are sure to enjoy this experience.
The Full Moon Hike and Howl is an event that was organized by the Raritan Headwaters Association, alongside the Friluftsliving Family.
In this activity, the group will start out gathering by the warm campfire and enjoying some toasted marshmallows. After some time spent learning about the full wolf moon, everyone will take a nighttime stroll through the venue’s trails, before gathering once again to join the big howl.
The full moon in the month of January being known as the “Wolf Moon” came from the belief that there was an increase in activities such as howling from wolves during the time period due to hunger. Nowadays, it is known that the howls are for other reasons, such as trying to find other pack members when they’re separated.
The venue is the Fairview Farm Wildlife Preserve, which is located in nearby Bridgewater. The town is only a few miles outside of Somerville. Tickets are available through EventBrite. With the site’s fees included, each ticket will cost $23.18. Many outdoor events use flyer printing as a promotion technique. The experience will be taking place between 6:00pm and 8:00pm. The date for the event and the appearance of the special moon will be January 3rd.
