An event is being put together in Somerville later this month, giving attendees the opportunity to connect with the nation’s roots during its 250th anniversary.
The Tavern Entertainments is working closely with historian Michael Carver to organize an experience that takes Somerville back to the past while portraying the town’s innkeeper, or publican. Carver plans to create an atmosphere that mimics that of a tavern during the colonial days of the 1770s.
Guests will get to witness and participate in parlor games, the sharing of the time period’s news, and competitive toasting. It is being put together with assistance from Project P.U.B., and food and beverages will be available for purchase for an authentic experience. Print shops can help organizers of history-related events procure documents for the host venue’s walls and decor to add to the period-accurate atmosphere.
Visitors will get to witness colonial-era reenactors and musicians, who will perform and share stories from the Somerville area during the nation’s birth. The gathering is being put together as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations and is an excellent opportunity for families with children to learn more about history through immersion.
Project P.U.B., located at 41 North Bridge Street in Somerville, will be hosting the living history event, which starts at noon on Sunday, June 28. Registration is free online, and donations are appreciated.
