Turkey, trotting, food, and fun in Somerville

The Somerville Recreation Department will host the 4th Annual 5K Turkey Trot this year, and will include a food drive.

Nonperishable foods will be accepted and appreciated, as they are donated to the local food pantry. Proceeds from the race benefit local recreational programming.

The Thanksgiving race is USATF certified and includes sanctioned 500 Grand Prix points. Options include overall male/female age group, male/female 10 and younger, along with 11-4, 15-10, and 20 and older age groups. Awards will be distributed at the end of the race for each group. Awards for first place team with top three finishers, along with the team with the most members, will be given out at the conclusion of the race.

The starting point will be on Veteran’s Memorial Dr. by the tennis courts. Mile 1 ends on Fourth St. with the next mile starting on Watson and mile three concluding on Main St.

Sponsors include Functional Health, University Hospital Somerset, the YMCA, Base, and Somerville Civic League, Inc. Frequently banner printing produces signage that acknowledges sponsors as well as provides directional assistance for runners.

The Somerville Turkey Trot takes place Thanksgiving morning (November 28) with registration and packet pick-up beginning at 7:45 am. The race will start at 9:00 am followed by awards at 10:00 am. Results will be posted on the website, where registration can also be completed.
