Somerville will be organizing a race in November at Engine Company No. 1 to raise money for local recreational programs.
The 6th Annual Somerville 5K Turkey Trot is a fundraiser that benefits Somerville Recreation. The route for the race is certified by USA Track & Field. Participants on the course will go through several parts of the community using streets such as Fairview Avenue, Veterans Memorial Drive East, and Loeser Avenue. The racing team with the most participants will receive an award. Results for the trot will be posted online.
Somerville Recreation is an organization wishing to develop the community’s appreciation for sports, nature, art, music, and drama. The group actively organizes fun events at nine local parks and fields. The current Director of Recreation for the organization is Kathy Gerndt. A few of the past programs offered by the department include wrestling clinics, spooky decorating contests, and volunteer debris cleanups. Activities like these can be advertised to people with poster printing.
The 5K trot will take place on Thursday, November 25th and will begin at 9:00 am. The cost to join the annual turkey trot will be $40 per participant. Those who want to enter Somerville Recreation’s race must register for the event by November 10th. Runners can find a virtual map of the course on the activity’s website.
