Somerville puts its legs to work for cancer

Locals in and around Somerville can give their legs and lungs a workout next month.

The 2nd Annual Legwork for Lungs 2015 features a one-mile fitness walk and a 5K run at Mountain Park. The 5K certified course will take participants on a looped route with a gentle slope, mile markers, and water stations. The event will benefit lung cancer research at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Foundation.

Along with the main events, there will also be carnival games, a tug-o-war match, a raffle, and music. Prizes and medals will be awarded and attendees can enjoy coffee and snacks.

Registration costs $25 for the 5K, and $10 for the walk. Those who preregister are guaranteed a T-shirt. In addition, USA Track and Field New Jersey members can get a $3 race discount during the pre-registration period. After November 10, the 5K costs $30 and the mile walk costs $12.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Sponsors will get perks such as having their logos put on Promotional Products such as Banners, T-Shirts, and pamphlets.

It all takes place on November 15 beginning with registration at 9:15 am. The mile walk will begin at 9:30 am followed by the 5K race at 10:00 am. The awards ceremony will start at 11:15 am.
