Oncology program expanding from Robert Wood to Steeplechase

Rutgers Cancer Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital of New Jersey have announced that their Gynecologic Oncology Program will expand to the Steeplechase Cancer Center’s Somerset Campus, which is located just a few minutes from Somerville, New Jersey.

The new program will use a multidisciplinary approach to treat and research cancers of the female reproductive system. According to a press release, the program is a partnership between Steeplechase and Rutgers Cancer Institute, and a full range of treatments will be provided by specialized physicians working in a team.

The program will offer a variety of services, such as diagnosis, radiation oncology, surgery, genetic testing, chemotherapy, and educational programming. In some hospitals, the latter would include using printing services to create Brochures and Flyers that patients can take home with them.

The president and CEO of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Stephen Jones, stated in a release that a cancer diagnosis can be life-changing for a patient and family, and that the hospital aimed to be sure that it is offering every patient the best possible care, as well as access to the most proven and advanced treatments.

Medical director Kathleen Toomey added that the program in Somerville would give many patients ease of access to the most recent treatment options and clinical trials available, so that quality support and care will be closer to home.
