A pair of mid-April events are giving Somerville residents an opportunity to personalize a product which could prove useful in the future.
The Rain Barrel Painting Party is an activity put together by the Raritan Headwaters Association (RHA). The RHA was established in 1959 with the goal of advocating for clean water and educating the public about the importance of keeping the water supply and the environment around it clean and safe.
Rain barrels are used to collect water that runs off a house’s roof. The water can later be used for plants inside the house, the lawn, and outdoor gardens. Techniques like this go hand in hand with efficiency and conservation.
The painting party aims to make the large barrels a little more colorful and exciting, allowing the owners to make their piece truly unique, perhaps adding some graphic design elements to their creation. Paint and other necessary materials are provided. Tickets are available on Eventbrite. Attendance will cost $23.18 on both dates. Guests may bring their own rain barrels or can buy one from the event team for $87.21, including Eventbrite fees.
The venue is the Fairview Farm Wildlife Preserve in Bedminster, not far from Somerville. The party is taking place between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm on both Thursday, April 17 and Thursday, April 24.
