Children to embrace nature at workshop

Kids who enjoy the outdoors can take part in an educational program at a large estate garden located in Hillsborough Township, just a few miles away from Somerville.

Duke Farms is hosting a ‘Coniferous Trees Keep Winter Green’ program where youngsters can learn about cone-bearing trees that stay mostly green throughout the winter. The workshop is intended for families with kids in kindergarten through sixth grade. Children must come with a grownup, although no more than two adults may accompany a child.

The coniferous trees class is part of the ‘Junior Naturalist Series’. Each month, kids and their parents learn a little bit more about nature. Throughout the series, children will explore various seasons, and learn how wildlife survives in these different elements.

At the end of the series, children will be given a certificate and a Junior Naturalist hat and badge. Parents will be given a plant indigenous to the area. No doubt the event organizers have asked Stationery printers to create certificates and other materials for the workshops.

The class costs $7 for each child and accompanying adults are free. Registration is available on the Duke Farms website.

The event takes place on December 14 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Since the program will go on even in inclement weather, participants are encouraged to dress appropriately. Duke Farms is located on 1112 Dukes Parkway West.
