School in Jersey City opens sensory theatre

A new sensory theatre for students is now open at the St. Jospeh’s School for the Blind in Jersey City.

News of such openings and offerings can be made known throughout a community with brochure printing.

The theatre has been named the “Dr. Hemant Shah Sensory Theater” in recognition of his generosity and dedication to ensuring that the school continues to provide specialized services for children with disabilities. Executive Director at the St. Joseph’s School for the Blind, David Feinhaus, said that Dr. Shah’s donation increased support for the theatre and enabled the school to build a state-of-the-art sign for it.

The theatre offers a therapeutic environment with many opportunities for children to explore, play, and learn. It can be used to both stimulate exploration, development, and learning as well as for relaxation, and to help children with learning and cognitive disabilities to better understand the world in which they live.

The theatre has auditory, tactile, and olfactory elements that enable children without functional vision to learn and reach their educational goals. These specialized elements are also customized for individual ages, abilities, and populations.

Shah said that this theatre enables such children to be happy and relaxed as a result of these sensations. He added that this is the only school in the state of New Jersey that offers such features and probably a theatre that does not exist anywhere else.
