Funding received for roadway project in Jersey City

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has received $25m in grant funding from the federal government for the 12th Street Corridor Improvement Project in Jersey City.

The Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Equity and Sustainability Discretionary Grant Program of the United States Department of Transportation is the source of the funding. The project will transform the cyclist and pedestrian experience in Jersey City, increase mobility, improve safety, and enhance sustainability along the entrance to a river crossing that is among the busiest in the region.

The funding will be used for the design, environmental studies, and construction of a protected bike corridor off the roadway that adds connectivity between the east and the west in Jersey City. The six existing eastbound lanes will be reduced to four along 12th Street, and new lighting equipment, traffic signals, and bicycle facilities will be added, while the sidewalks will be widened with curb bump-outs. The project will also include streetscaping and landscaping, safety, and access improvements.

Flyer printing can be used to provide more details on such projects and their benefits for a community.

Kevin O’Toole, chairman of the Port Authority, said that this project has been made possible thanks to the partners of the city in Congress and at the United States Department of Transportation. He feels it will dramatically improve the quality of life and safety for drivers and residents of Jersey City.
