This is an initiative led by the community in which school supplies, hair braiding, and haircuts will be provided at no charge. There will also be community resources for families. The owner of the barber shop, Jacques Bikai, said he developed the event to be able to give back to the community. He added:
“A haircut or hairstyle can seem like a small thing, but for a child walking into school on that first day, looking good and feeling good can make a real difference in their confidence.”
This event was held last year, with 35 students from the city attending. Bikai said this demonstrated that an event like this was needed for families when there can be many expenses for returning to school.
He added that this year’s goal is to give some practical support to families and reinforce a sense of community, not just to provide free haircuts and school supplies. He also wants the children to know that there are individuals and businesses in the community who care about them and their ability to be successful.
Poster printing can be used to promote such events and their benefits throughout a community.
This event will be from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 6.
