Community center to be built in Jersey City neighborhood

An investment of $1 million has been secured to fund the Bayside Community Center in Jersey City.

The new center will increase access to education, recreation, and community services, according to former Mayor Steven Fulop. The Bayside Community Center is the inaugural project in a citywide initiative to construct six new recreation centers, one in each ward, following the passage of the ordinance passed in 2024 that established this initiative. This effort is a key component of the commitment of the Fulop to promote equitable access to high-quality community resources and ensure that every neighborhood has the modern infrastructure needed to support the health, wellness, and social connections of residents.

The community center will be in the Greenville section of Bayside Park. Direct input from the community will be used to develop the new multi-purpose hub. Part of the funding will go towards design and planning of the facility.

Fulop said that this investment will enable the city to move forward with this project that will provide residents with access to important programs and services that support education, health, and other opportunities. He added that all these new centers will include flexible spaces for wellness and fitness activities, youth programming, cultural and educational programming, and community-based services. Flyer printing is one way to provide more information about such centers and their benefits.

More public meetings are scheduled for this year to garner feedback from the community.
