Wilmington to assume key pharmaceutical supply role
The temperature-controlled transportation and storage company, Frontier Scientific Solutions, along with Wilmington International Airport are partnering in a project that will make use of North Carolina’s first free-trade zone.
The $1.5 billion project is being spearheaded by the temperature-controlled storage and transportation company Frontier Scientific Solutions and will include a pharmaceutical storage and production facilities in both Shannon, Ireland and here at ILM Business Park. Hundreds of jobs are expected to be created locally and catapult Wilmington into the position of a life sciences industry global leader.
Print shops supply a variety of print products for businesses including employee handbooks for new hires.
A new direct flight will move pharmaceuticals between Wilmington and Shannon, Ireland on planes containing temperature-controlled containers. Ireland is the world’s second largest pharmaceutical drug developer and contains more than 100 pharma companies. The Shannon International Airport is the “gateway” into the U.K., Europe and Asia.
Currently under construction, the new facility will include climate-controlled storage amounting to 500,000 square feet and a 30,000 square feet of office area. Adjacent to ILM runway 1735, the facility will permit planes to pull directly in to facilitate unloading and placement into the storage units as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The Wilmington-based facility, which will bring production, storage and distribution back to North Carolina will be open as of August 2025.
