Funding for the Greenville Loop Trail’s second section was recently voted on and approved by Wilmington City Council, and construction is anticipated to begin soon.
Once finished, the whole of the trail will be 4.4 miles, with the Greenville Loop Trail being the longest section at 1.6 miles. This section, extending from Pine Grove Drive, will have ADA ramps and will be asphalted to Old Military Road.
Municipalities rely on local Print shops to supply them with clear, easy-to-read maps for parks, trails, and other recreational options available to the public.
Following a public bidding, Wells Brothers Construction was awarded the construction contract for the upcoming trail’s second phase, which is set to take nine months with a completion anticipated in spring of 2026. Work should start this month.
Included in the $3,864,253 price tag for the project will be drainage, utilities and a new traffic light at Bradley Creek Elementary.
Later this year, the city anticipates opening the bidding for the Greenville Loop Trail’s remaining two sections. The third will follow Greenville Loop Road, going from Old Military Road up to Park Avenue with a single pedestrian crossing being considered at Oleander Drive.
The Greenville Loop’s fourth and final section will extend from Holly Tree Road to the Pine Grove Drive/Greenville Loop Road intersection planned for the roundabout. Construction of this last section, along with the roundabout, is set to begin next year.
