A mainstay of the Marina District, Tequila’s Waterfront owners, brothers Ramon and Miguel Villasenor, reached a self-described mutual and amicable decision with Zephyr Development Co. resulting in the eatery closing for good on May 4. A cherished restaurant known for its energetic atmosphere and waterfront views, a joint statement from the ownership group said:
“While we are sad to see Tequila’s Waterfront come to a close, we are incredibly proud of what was built here and grateful for the memories created.”
The changing of the guard at the old Tequila Waterfront location is a new beginning for all parties involved. The Villasenor brothers will be turning their full attention to their growing business ventures, among which are a new Los Portales Supermarket spot and other projects on the drawing board.

According to Zephyr Development Co. a new restaurant concept will emerge from the waterfront space under the direction of the Giorgios Hospitality Group led by Giorgios Bakatsias. Although specific details have not been made available, the new concept is expected to deliver a fresh dining experience to Wilmington’s downtown. Additional information is expected over the next few weeks.
