Per the U.S. Department of Transportation, Wilmington’s airport will receive federal funding in the amount of $3 million via the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program.
The money being provided to Wilmington is a portion of the $84.4 million the Department of Transportation earmarked for airport projects in Wyoming and Texas as well as here in North Carolina. Federal transportation officials explained that these grants were to improve infrastructure, update airport facilities and bolster safe, efficient airport operations.
Airports have multiple uses for signage as well as custom business Stationery that frequently need to be restocked.
Sean P. Duffy, the U.S. Transportation Secretary, commenting on the grants said:
"Across the country, we are making long overdue investments into airport infrastructure that will enhance the travel experience for American families. Through runway, terminal, and facility updates, we are making sure our overall systems are more reliable and resilient."
The money given to the Wilmington Airport will be used to expand the area where its aircraft are parked and serviced, commonly referred to as the apron.
Other communities receiving grants for their airports include Jackson Hole with a grant of $16.6 million; the Regional Airport in Abilene, which is to receive $17.5 million; and the international airport in San Antonio that has been awarded $40.9 million.
