LawnStarter recently conducted a study with the aim of discovering the best U.S. cities for dog owners and Wilmington placed in the top 10.
Residents thinking of getting a dog as well as dog lovers considering relocating here will be happy to hear that Wilmington was ranked No. 6 on the list of Best Cities for Dog Owners. A variety of factors went into LawnStarter’s rankings with five major categories broken down into 37 individual metrics with each of these metrics carrying a specific weight within its category.
Chambers of commerce in conjunction with printing services advertise any honors or accomplishments of their city.
Among the five primary categories, affordability, businesses, care, community and housing, Wilmington scored the best in “care” with the sixth highest score. The city also did well in the “businesses” category where it ranked 19th, based on the dog-friendliness of its commercial spaces.
Wilmington still has room for improvement, according to LawnStarter, with the best place to start perhaps being in how dog owners are supported by the city. Its worst category was the “community” category where it placed 233rd. Included in the “community” category are metrics such as the number and quality of the city’s dog parks.
Boasting three cities in the top ten, North Carolina is the only state to claim more than one position in the top ten with Asheville occupying 2nd place and Raleigh coming in at No. 9 on the list.
