Inaugural Oyster and Seafood Celebration on tap for Wilmington

The first ever North Carolina Oyster & Seafood Celebration will take place at Seabird, the Wilmington restaurant of Chef Dean Neff.

Coinciding with the beginning of the wild oyster season, the event highlights the seafood industry in North Carolina from aquaculture to commercial fishing. The goal of the two-day event, according to a news release from Neff, is to celebration the state’s coastline and its seafood resources by gathering seafood workers, chefs and consumers.

Poster printing services help grow inaugural events into annual ones.

Featured, at what is hoped to be an annual event, will be oyster sommelier Julie Qiu. Qiu, the Oyster Master Guild co-founder, will lead tastings and classes to educate the public concerning oysters. Also participating will be Ana Shellem a local farmer and forager of oysters.

The North Carolina Oyster & Seafood Celebration takes place over two days, November 4 and 5. On the first day there will be a Farmed Oyster Dinner that include a Julie Qiu led oyster tasting with oysters from across North Carolina. The finale of the evening is a multi-course seafood dinner.

On November 5 there will be an Oyster Class led by Qiu from 12 to 2:30 pm to educate oyster farmers, seafood enthusiasts and hospitality workers. In the evening 5pm to 7:15 pm a Wild Oyster Chef’s Table will be held for eight with a tasting menu at Seabird’s Chef’s Table focusing on wild oysters.

Reservations for these events are available on OpenTable.
