New manufacturing facility to open in Wilmington

The new facility that Protocase and 45Drives had planned to open in 2029 is now expected to open within the next year.

Protocase is a Canadian company that manufactures sheet metal, custom electronic enclosures, and Computer Numerical Control machining. Its customer base includes engineers, scientists, and innovators, with Microsoft, Apple, and Google having been among its customers.
Founded in 2000 by Steve Lilley and Doug Milburn, the company has grown into an international manufacturing firm.

An open-source data storage company, 45Drives is a Protocase division that sells to aerospace and government institutions, as well as manufacturing the high-speed storage required for large file management by video producers.

Having representatives at local festivals to hand out Promotional Products is an excellent way for a new company to introduce itself to a community.

The new, 12,000-square-foot facility, which is expected to employ 500 workers, will be situated at 4270 U.S. Route 421. The decision to build the new facility in Wilmington was based on the availability of a skilled workforce, its growth potential as a technology hub, and its robust film scene.

Recognized for its high-velocity mass customization, the company will be producing custom computer parts once opened, and is using North Carolina for Military Employment, as well as Cape Fear Community College, as a means of locating prospective employees.
