Publix market to open in Gastonia

It was revealed on April 14 that another grocery shopping option would soon be available in Gastonia, with an announcement from Lakeland, Florida-based Publix that it is set to open a store here.

Publix is leasing the space that Lowes Foods used to occupy in Hoffman Village. A date for the opening will be dependent on how long it will take to renovate the site. Since the location was formerly a grocery, however, the remodeling sis expected to be swifter than it would be if a change of use were necessary.

What specific features will be present at the Gastonia location have not been announced. It is known, however, that Publix will not be operating the fuel station despite having leased the whole site.

Along with the announcement of the Gastonia store, plans for a Publix in Cary were revealed, and this will also be in located in a former Lowes Foods store. The last three years has seen an aggressive expansion by the company through the metro Charlotte area. Primarily, the new Publix stores have been accomplished through the acquisition of former Bi-Lo stores.

Area Stationery printers have likely seen an uptick in their business thanks to Publix. In the past year alone, the company has opened eight stores in the state, according to CEO Ed Crenshaw. Publix is privately owned and has 1,098 stores across six Southeastern states.
